Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Cleaning Up Smoke and Soot

Cleaning and Deodorization

Returning a home to preloss condition after a fire, no matter how big or small, usually requires some degree of structure cleaning to remove soot particles from walls, ceilings, and any belongings that may contribute to a "burnt" smell. SERVPRO of Macon has the equipment and know-how to tackle any degree of cleanup and deodorization to make it "like it never even happened".

Handling this cleanup

In this example, a puffback from a propane fireplace left an oily, greasy soot on the structure (walls/ceiling/floor), as well as the contents in the room (couch, kitchen table, etc.) Our crew began by wiping the walls and ceiling with a chem sponge to remove as much soot as possible. This helps tremendously with the smoke odor, as well as the overall appearance of the room throughout the duration of the job. We call this method "prep to paint" because typically, the last step in the restoration work involves repainting affected portions of the room. We also cleaned the contents in the room with the chem sponge, in addition to specialty cleaners, to remove any lingering odors.
